Most hotels in central Bangkok sell you proximity to a shopping mall. The St. Regis Bangkok sells something nobody else can buy: the windows look out over the grounds of the Royal Bangkok Sports Club, a private club chartered by King Rama V in 1901, home to the first racecourse in Thailand and the second oldest golf course in the country. That land is not going to be built on.
This guide covers one place per page, from the lobby on the twelfth floor to the pool on the fifteenth, and out to the horse race that runs beneath your window on alternate Sundays. Most pages end with a short "how to plan it" note. Thirteen pages, about seventeen minutes.
The last page has a checklist of twelve things you can tick off. Three of them are already included in the room rate and most guests never think to ask. Take your time with it.
01 · The basics
A borrowed view, and the parking garage that lifts it
The hotel stands on Rajadamri Road and occupies levels 12 to 24 of a 47 story tower, with 53 private residences above it. Two things define the position. A covered skybridge connects it directly to the BTS Skytrain at Ratchadamri station, and the west and north elevations look straight across the Royal Bangkok Sports Club, roughly 120 hectares of ground that has carried no buildings for more than a century. Views in central Bangkok are usually won by building higher. This one was borrowed.

The lobby is not on the ground floor. It is on the twelfth. You arrive into a tall entrance atrium at street level, hand over the luggage, and ride up to reception. Everything below level 12 is parking and commercial space, which lifts the whole building above the elevated Skytrain tracks. That decision is why the windows are not cut across by rails and cables. It is a plain piece of planning, and the entire payoff is outside the glass.
- Arrival dayA car from the airport takes about forty minutes. If you want the hotel Mercedes, book ahead. It costs more than a street taxi and buys you a trip where you never have to explain anything.
- Moving around townThe skybridge reaches BTS Ratchadamri in about a minute. Bangkok traffic in the evening is serious work, and the train is far quicker.
- When bookingIf you plan to work, decide whether 5 Mbps is enough. The faster tier is THB 400 a day and discovering the difference on a call is no fun.
02 · Public spaces and service
The living floor is the twelfth, and the service is a century old
Level 12 is this hotel's ground floor. Reception, VIU, The St. Regis Bar, and The Drawing Room all sit on it, and a two story elliptical staircase curls up around an eighteen foot chandelier, roughly five and a half meters, to the banquet and meeting floors above. What defines this brand is not the hardware. It is the butler.

Butler service gets dismissed as theater in Bangkok. The practical value is that you never have to work out who to ask. A restaurant booking, a car, a creased shirt, a pot of coffee: all of it goes through one channel. Extending that to every category, including the entry room, is something not every St. Regis manages.
With no club lounge there are also no sittings, no clearing, and no capacity limits. Breakfast happens in a proper restaurant instead. The cost is that there is no fixed place to have a free drink in the early evening. That role is filled by the six o'clock sabrage and by The Drawing Room, both on page 7.
03 · Rooms
Entry rooms start at 45 square meters, and the difference is which way you face
The entry category is the Deluxe, 45 to 53 square meters, spread across levels 16 to 19. Above it sits the Grand Deluxe, and above that the Astor Room. What separates the three in practice is height and orientation. The golf course side looks over the club's turf and racing oval. The city side looks at the towers of Bangkok. Both are handsome, and they are two different things.

04 · Bathrooms
Twin vanities and a deep tub in the entry room
A good number of Bangkok five star hotels hold the tub back for suites. Here the 45 square meter Deluxe already has the full arrangement: two marble vanities, a deep soaking tub, and a separate rain shower behind glass. This is a 2011 building, and the bathrooms were sized to the standard of that period, which is to say larger than most new hotels give you now.

The bathroom is the part of this hotel least affected by its age. Stone, twin vanities, and a deep tub do not go out of date, and they keep working as long as they are maintained. What shows the years is the soft furnishing in the bedroom and the placement of the television, which is the recurring theme in the reviews on page 10.
05 · Dining
Breakfast on the twelfth floor, over the grass
VIU is the all day restaurant on level 12, Mediterranean in style, run by chef Matteo Fontana. It is the only place in the hotel that serves breakfast, and it is the single thing most often praised online. Marriott Bonvoy Platinum and above, Amex Fine Hotels + Resorts, and the Marriott STARS advisor channel all take their complimentary breakfast here.

The breakfast reviews here run unusually high, and the reason is that the kitchen does both halves properly. Most hotels at this level pick one: a large buffet with a thin cooked menu, or strong cooking with a small spread. VIU gives you both and runs until eleven without hurrying anyone out. From a booking point of view, that is why a breakfast benefit is worth more at this property than at most.

06 · Dining
One star, one Zuma, and a rule to settle in advance
IGNIV Bangkok is the first IGNIV outside Switzerland, from three star chef Andreas Caminada. It took a Michelin star in 2022 and held it through the 2026 guide. The same building holds Zuma and Sushi Kishin. None of these three is run by the hotel, and that fact decides how you can spend the food and beverage credit in your booking.

The limits on the credit live in the terms, not in the marketing copy. Terms published by another advisor program for this same hotel state that the USD 100 food and beverage credit does not apply at Zuma or Sushi Kishin, and that at IGNIV it can only be redeemed against the full Sharing Experience menu. The Marriott STARS description does not spell this out, and in practice the restriction is likely to be the same. The single most useful thing to do on this page is have your advisor obtain the current list in writing.

The two best hours of the day are both on the twelfth floor
The St. Regis Bar occupies level 12 behind a fourteen meter counter of black marble, opening onto a terrace that faces the racing oval and the turf beyond. The Drawing Room adjoins it. Half past two to five is afternoon tea. Six o'clock sharp is the sabrage. These are the two most theatrical hours in the building, and the second one is free.

Sabrage is a St. Regis ritual worldwide and each property stages it a little differently. Bangkok opens with the gong, and once it sounds the people on the terrace know to drift over. The whole thing takes about ten minutes, the glass of sparkling wine is free, and you do not have to order anything to stand and watch. Six o'clock also happens to be when the sun drops behind the sports club on this side of the building.
08 · Facilities
Level 15: a pool, a Muay Thai ring, and a longevity clinic
Everything recreational sits on level 15. The outdoor pool is set on top of the podium with a whirlpool and loungers beside it. The gym is glass walled, open around the clock, and contains a Muay Thai ring. The original spa has become the Bangkok LIFE Longevity and Biohacking Hub, which is the largest change this building has seen in years.

One thing is easy to misread: the spa here is no longer a hotel spa in the ordinary sense. Bangkok LIFE is built around testing, consultation, and longevity programs, and it operates on a members' clinic logic where day visitors get partial access. Two hours of massage is certainly available, but it is not where the emphasis sits. Bangkok has more massage than anyone could use, so where you spend depends on whether you want to relax or to be measured.
The pool is not large and it is not a rooftop infinity edge. It sits on the podium roof with buildings around it. In exchange it is closed to visitors, so it stays quiet, and fifteen floors up is high enough to feel above the street without losing the city entirely.

Three routes: STARS, Bonvoy points, and a four night package
This is a Marriott hotel, so the booking math works nothing like an independent group. Three routes run at once: the Marriott STARS advisor channel, a Bonvoy points redemption, and the hotel's own package. Each has its own sweet spot, so run the numbers before you commit.

The interesting part of the four night package is not the discount. It is the phrase "guaranteed at the time of confirmation." Advisor upgrades normally read subject to availability, which means you find out at the desk. This package writes the upgrade into the confirmation instead and removes the uncertainty. For anyone who needs the golf course side, that makes it the cleanest route available: book a Grand Deluxe Room Skyline View and it becomes an Astor Room Golf Course View before you fly.
Whether a package and the advisor benefits can be held together is usually governed by separate terms. Discounted packages generally exclude other offers, so have your advisor obtain written confirmation from the hotel before booking.

The praise and the complaints, separated
Scores for this hotel have sat just above nine for years. The praise clusters tightly around two things, and the complaints cluster around one. Both are listed below, drawn from booking platforms, travel media, and long form stay reports.
Praise
- Butler service is named again and again, and it reaches every category rather than the suites alone. One reviewer put it that the service made the location argument irrelevant
- Breakfast at VIU appears in almost every review. The buffet is large and the cooked items rate highly, with ramen, French toast, and avocado toast named repeatedly
- The covered skybridge to BTS Ratchadamri counts for a great deal in a city with Bangkok's traffic
- The outlook from the golf course side is considered rare for central Bangkok: open, green, and safe from being blocked by a new tower
- Large bathrooms with twin vanities and a separate tub, from the entry category up
- The six o'clock sabrage and the afternoon tea are treated as the hotel's character rather than as optional theater
- After the earthquake felt in Bangkok in March 2025, several guests singled out how the team handled the response
Complaints
- Rooms are seen as trailing the rest of the brand. One review states plainly that the room quality did not meet the St. Regis standard, referring to the furnishing and design language rather than to cleanliness or upkeep
- This is a 2011 building with no publicly reported comprehensive renovation in recent years. Travelers who want current design will find it conservative
- There is no club lounge, so no free space to settle into in the early evening
- Three of the eight food and drink spaces are run by third parties, which narrows where the hotel credit can be spent
- The pool is modest and there is no rooftop skyline pool of the kind Bangkok does well
- Standard internet runs at 5 Mbps, and anything faster is charged

Read side by side, the praise is about people and position while the complaints are about the age of the building. This is a fifteen year old tower carried by a current standard of service, and how you weigh those two against each other decides the whole question.
11 · The neighborhood
Bangkok's best shopping corner on one side, and a field nobody may build on
Five minutes north of the door is the Ratchaprasong intersection, where the Erawan Shrine, Gaysorn, Erawan Bangkok, and CentralWorld are stacked on top of each other. Ten minutes south is Lumphini Park. One road west is the sports club. Two completely opposite versions of Bangkok share the same address.

Walking here splits sharply in two directions. Head north toward Ratchaprasong and you are on a connected system of covered skywalks, roofed the whole way, with cold air spilling out of every mall entrance and no need to touch the street. Head south or east and you are on the pavement, which is narrow and hot in the afternoon. Most people end up walking north and taking a car south.
The Erawan Shrine is five minutes away and is one of the few places in Bangkok where somebody is praying at any hour. Go at six in the morning and there are no tour groups, only people stopping on the way to work. The shrine at that hour is a different place from the shrine at midday.
The riverside hotels are answering a different question. The river sells water and distance. This one sells the middle of the city plus a borrowed piece of green. If the trip is about getting away from Bangkok, go to the water. If it is about walking into a mall downstairs and looking at grass upstairs, the answer is here.
12 · Hidden details
Four things about the field outside your window
One. On alternate Sundays there is a horse race down there
Racing at the Royal Bangkok Sports Club never stopped. The club publishes its race days, which fall on roughly every second Sunday, running from noon until six in the evening. If your room faces the golf course and your stay lands on one of those Sundays, you will watch an entire meeting through the glass: horses walking out, the start, the grandstand filling up along the rail. Most guests have no idea, because it appears in none of the hotel's material. Checking the club's fixture list before you book is the highest return minute in this article.
Two. That grass is older than the paved roads around it
In 1890 an Englishman named Franklin Hurst asked the Foreign Minister for permission to lease land in the Sa Pathum area for racing and athletics meetings. The lease came through in 1892 and became the Bangkok Gymkhana Club, which lasted less than a decade. On September 6, 1901, a group of foreign residents and Thai notables led by the Russian Consul-General Alexander Olarovsky petitioned King Chulalongkorn, who granted the royal charter creating the Royal Bangkok Sports Club and instructed it to take over the racecourse land. The club still sits on that ground. Racing began in January 1903, and cricket followed in 1905, golf in 1906, rugby in 1907, and squash in 1909.
Three. A split in 1916 is why Bangkok has two racecourses
In 1916 a group of Thai members left over money being diverted to other sports at the expense of racing prizes, and founded the Royal Turf Club. The two became known as Sanam Thai, the Thai course, and Sanam Farang, the foreigners' course, with the RBSC as the latter. An argument about budgets became two place names that survive more than a century later.
Four. What you are looking at has a shelf life
Club announcements show work advancing on a new clubhouse and a new grandstand, with design tenders and ceremonial milestones reported through 2026. That means the view west from the hotel will pick up cranes and new structures over the next few years. The most practical sentence on this page: the skyline over that course is a temporary condition.

- Anyone expecting current design language. This is a 2011 building with no publicly reported comprehensive renovation in recent years

- Travelers who want quiet and distance from the city. That is the question the riverside hotels answer
- Anyone planning to eat across the whole property on the hotel credit. Three of the eight spaces may fall outside it
Land prices in central Bangkok consume every empty lot eventually, and the only exceptions are the parcels that cannot be sold: royal land, school land, club land.
