The Westin Tashee Resort, Taoyuan sits on Rixin Road in the Daxi district, with the Tashee Golf Club next door. There are 204 rooms, every one of them with its own balcony, and the drive from Taoyuan High Speed Rail station takes about fifty minutes. It is the only Marriott resort in Taoyuan. The praise online concentrates on the pools and the children's facilities, and the criticism concentrates on one thing: it is far from everything.

The golf course came first, by more than twenty years
This land was not developed in order to build a hotel. A 27-hole golf course came first, and the hotel grew up beside it afterward. Once you know that, the location, the acreage and the transport all make sense: the building sits next to a golf course, and golf courses do not get built in town centers.

One shuttle a day in each direction is the first thing to work out. The 1:00 pm departure from the station reaches the hotel around 2:00 pm, which lines up with the 3:00 pm check-in. The return leaves the hotel at noon, so everything has to be finished before then. Anyone arriving by rail has a trip framed by those two times. Anyone arriving by car has no such problem, and driving is what the large majority of guests do.

The lobby is on two, and everything else is on one
The car pulls up at the second floor, and that is the level you walk into. The Lobby Lounge and the bakery are both up here. One level down are Seasonal Tastes, Li Xuan, the indoor pool and the Kids Club. The site is a valley slope, so the floor numbering follows the ground rather than the order you arrive in.

Out on the lawn stands a set of life-size chess pieces, tall enough that a child has to carry a piece rather than slide it. Nobody expects you to finish a game. Most people who walk over move the queen to a different square, take a photograph and carry on toward the pool. The set solves no problem at all. It simply gives a stretch of grass a reason to be walked on.

Accessibility

Assistive listening devices and braille signage appear on neither the hotel site nor the booking system, so call ahead if you need either. As noted, the building runs a long way horizontally, and asking the desk for a room near an elevator will save a good deal of walking.

Does The Westin Tashee have bathtubs? | Yes, in every category
At a lot of resorts the entry category gives you a shower and nothing else. That is not the case here. The hotel's own category pages, from the Deluxe Room all the way to the Presidential Suite, list a bathtub and a separate walk-in shower as standard. It is the difference most easily missed against comparable properties.

The Westin white tea scent runs like a thread through this building. It starts in the lobby, continues into the bath amenities, and continues again down in the spa. You will not consciously register it while you are there. Two days after check-out you will catch the same scent somewhere else and think of this place at once. Marriott builds the brand as an olfactory memory, and every Westin in the world works the same way.

Seasonal Tastes is on the first floor, 200 seats plus one private room, and it is the only place in the building serving breakfast. Both breakfast and dinner run in timed seatings, and the hotel states plainly on its own site that guests should register a breakfast time at the restaurant after checking in. The food divides opinion, and it divides it consistently
Breakfast covers a noodle station, congee, Cantonese dim sum and Western hot dishes. Stay reports vary widely on it. The people who like it point to range and to the cooked-to-order items. The people who mark it down converge on one specific complaint: the dim sum is not held in steamer baskets and the wrappers dry out. Dinner is a semi-buffet, with unlimited main courses alongside a buffet of salads and desserts, and the steak is the dish that gets named most often.

No executive lounge, and a happy hour for everyone
This is the point to settle first: there is no executive lounge here. Anyone used to a city Westin, where Platinum members go upstairs for a drink, will look for that door and not find it. What stands in its place is the poolside happy hour at 8:00 pm, and it is open to every guest in the building regardless of status.

The absent lounge levels something out
An executive lounge in a city hotel sorts guests into two groups: the ones who go upstairs and the ones who do not. This resort draws no such line. At eight in the evening the pool lights are on, the DJ is playing, and the guest in the lowest category queues at the same bar as the guest in the Presidential Suite. For families that matters in a practical way, because lounges usually carry an age limit and a poolside bar does not.
The cost is that it lasts ninety minutes and happens in one place. Before eight you order and pay in the Lobby Lounge upstairs, and after nine thirty the Lobby Lounge is all that remains, open until eleven.

Two pools, an amusement park, and 27 holes next door
What this resort is actually selling sits on the first floor and outdoors. A 25-meter indoor heated pool, a tropical outdoor pool, what the group calls Asia's largest Westin Kids Club, a whole GO GO PARK, and a tournament golf course on the other side of the fence. The density of facilities is what carries the rate.

The mini golf course is a map of Taoyuan
The mini golf at GO GO PARK is not a few lengths of green laid down at random. Each hole is shaped after a Taoyuan landmark, so putting your way around the course amounts to a tour of the county. Children will not know what the shapes stand for. Adults start recognizing them somewhere around the third hole. It is the least necessary thing in the whole facility and the most carefully made.

Tripadvisor gives 4.1 out of 5 across 635 reviews, ranking it first of the four hotels in the Daxi district. The Fora advisor system currently carries one client review, from a one-night stay in April 2026, at 5 out of 5. The dividing line in the feedback is clear: guests with children are broadly satisfied, and couples broadly find it expensive.

The address says Daxi, the driving points toward New Taipei
One line on the hotel's own attractions sheet runs against intuition. The property is in the Daxi district, and Daxi Old Street is a thirty-minute drive, while the Yingge Ceramics Museum in New Taipei City is twenty-five and the New Taipei City Art Museum is ten. The site sits on the northwestern edge of Daxi, closer to the city boundary than to the old town.

- Sheraton Hsinchu: also Marriott, about an hour's drive south. 770 rooms across a business wing and a family wing, with a higher density of facilities and none of this valley. There is a separate twelve-page piece on it on this site.
- Guesthouses around Daxi Old Street: if the old street and the wood art museum are the point of the trip, staying in town saves thirty minutes in each direction. What this resort buys you is acreage, and distance is the price.
- Airport hotels: the drive to Taoyuan International Airport is about forty minutes, so this is an awkward base for an early departure. The properties beside the terminals make more sense for that.
- One nightSchedule no sightseeing. The facility density is high enough that leaving wastes the stay.
- Two nightsGo out on the middle day. Cihu at fifteen minutes and Shimen Reservoir at twenty are the two closest.

10 · History and detail
Before it was a Westin, all of this was Hong Shi
Until 12 May 2016 this whole property was Hong Shi Daxi Villa and the Hong Shi golf course. The name changed. The landform, the fairways and the approach road did not. The room you sleep in was built on top of a resort estate that had already been running for more than twenty years.
One: the course came first, and it arrived with a pedigree
Tashee Golf Club has 27 holes over 10,293 yards, rebuilt in 1999 by Robert Trent Jones Jr. The name needs little explanation in course design, and his father laid out more than five hundred courses. After the rebuild the club hosted the Johnnie Walker Classic and the BMW Asian Open, and Tiger Woods has played here.
Two: a president and a teen drama, on the same piece of ground
In the Hong Shi years, Daxi was where Taiwan's political and business figures took their weekends. The late president Lee Teng-hui stayed at the Hong Shi estate and played the course regularly. The same grounds later served as a filming location for Meteor Garden, the 2001 series that launched the modern Taiwanese idol drama across Asia. A golf course remembered by the political establishment and by a generation of drama fans at once is more interesting than the golf.
Three: Cihu, fifteen minutes away, explains why villas were built here
It is a fifteen-minute drive from the hotel to the Cihu Mausoleum, where Chiang Kai-shek is interred. Daxi became a cluster of resort real estate because the Chiang era treated this area as villa country. Hills, a reservoir, low mountains and a provincial road that was never hard to drive: those conditions turned Daxi into the first weekend hinterland south of metropolitan Taipei during the 1980s, a decade in which the whole cluster took shape. The golf course and the villa estate both came out of that wave.
Four: in 2022 the whole thing was advertised for sale
In August 2022, Colliers ran public notices offering 100 percent of the equity in both the hotel and the golf operation, with bids closing on 20 December that year. The hotel stated at the time that operations were unaffected. What happened after that is not something this piece could establish from public sources. A resort six years old and hard to book at weekends being put up whole is a signal worth remembering, and it supports no conclusion about how the property runs today.

Why the rate is what it is. Summer holidays, long weekends and the wedding calendar are three separate sources of peak demand, and with seven banquet halls a Saturday wedding takes the restaurants and the parking spaces along with it. This table explains the room hierarchy better than the hotel's own site does. The Deluxe Room and the Premium Room are both 38 square meters and the price gap is aspect alone: US$34.42 a night between the mountains and the resort. The Studio Suite adds another US$51.64, and the Family Suite runs to more than double the Deluxe. For four people, what that doubling buys is a second bedroom and a second balcony.

To be plain about it: there are no advisor perks to collect at this property. Book the Bonvoy member rate yourself and you get exactly the rate and exactly the service you would get through an advisor.
What an advisor can still offer here is the conversation: how the beds are configured in the family categories, how many pieces of infant equipment to send up, whether the breakfast seating can be settled in advance, how close to an elevator a guest with limited mobility needs to be. You can do all of this by email yourself. The difference is that the reservations team deals with advisors every week and the same sentence lands differently. - You have no car. One shuttle run each way per day will frame the whole trip
- You are a senior Bonvoy member who values an executive lounge. There is no such room here
- You want to combine this with Daxi Old Street or an early flight. Those are thirty and forty minutes away and neither is convenient
- You are two people who do not play golf and do not book spa treatments. The facility mix leans clearly toward families
A golf course arrived first, a villa estate grew beside it, an international brand went up over both twenty years later, and six years after that the whole thing was advertised for sale. Today it is one of the hardest family resorts in northern Taiwan to book at a weekend.
