Any Le Meridien Taipei review tends to circle two numbers: 160 guest rooms, and close to 700 original works of contemporary art. The hotel opened in December 2010 in the middle of Taipei's Xinyi District, four to five minutes on foot from Taipei City Hall MRT station and nine minutes from Taipei 101. The operator, My Humble House Hospitality, began as an antiques dealer.
This piece covers one place per page, from the artwork at the door to the executive lounge on floor 12. Page 9 has a channel by channel rate table for the night of November 11, everything in US dollars. About thirty five minutes. If all you want is the booking decision, pages 4, 9 and 13 carry it.

01 · THE BASICS
The middle of Xinyi, and only 160 rooms
The address is No. 38 Songren Road, between city hall and the Shin Kong Mitsukoshi department stores. The neighbors run to eight hundred rooms and four hundred rooms. This hotel has 160. That small scale is the source of nearly everything here, good and limiting: an uncrowded lobby, short elevator waits, a short service radius, and a facilities list that amounts to one pool, one lounge floor and one buffet restaurant.

A hotel that unpacked a museum into its corridors
At opening this hotel called itself an art hotel, and the numbers back the label: close to 700 original works of contemporary art, most commissioned for the building, by artists from Taiwan, China, Japan, the United Kingdom, Germany and Belgium. Spread over 160 rooms, that is more than four works per room. No other hotel in Taipei carries that density.

Even the key card is a work: the face, titled a key to discovery, is by the Chinese artist Yan Lei. The card also carries a right almost nobody uses. Under the brand's UNLOCK ART program it admits you to MoCA Taipei, the Museum of Contemporary Art, at no charge. It is still in your pocket when you check out.

Between rooms, the biggest difference is out the window
The entry level Deluxe room measures 38 square meters (one record says about 33), which is generous for a Taipei five star. What separates one stay from another is orientation: more than half the rooms face Taipei 101, and the rest face neighboring towers. Same category, same price, and the window holds either a landmark or a glass curtain wall.

Does Le Meridien Taipei have bathtubs? Most entry rooms do not, so ask
The conclusion first: in the Deluxe category, most rooms have a walk in shower and no bathtub. Tubs begin in certain Deluxe configurations and in the suites. This point has recurred in stay reports for over a decade and is the single most asked question about the property.

A lot of people are angry at the wrong party
The complaint that a five star hotel will not even hand over a toothbrush picks the wrong target. Those two lines above are law, and prohibited means the front desk cannot give you one either. The Grand Hyatt, the Mandarin Oriental and the Four Seasons operate under the same rule. Bring your own toothbrush; that is simply part of staying in Taipei now, and it says nothing about this hotel.

Breakfast and the buffet at Le Meridien Taipei: one rebuild, two timetables
Latest Recipe on the ground floor reopened from a full renovation in October 2025, close to 990 square meters with more than ten live stations and over 50 kinds of seafood. On June 1, 2026 the schedule changed again: weekday afternoon tea was dropped and Friday gained a second afternoon seating. Check the date on anything you read; pre renovation menus and pre June timetables are both obsolete.

The executive lounge does not serve a full breakfast, so the free breakfast for Bonvoy Platinum and above is at Latest Recipe, open from 06:30, a practical hour before a morning flight. The made to order Taiwanese noodle counter and the ice cream freezer are the two items guests mention most.

First came Humble House, then came the Meridien
My Humble House on floor 2 serves Cantonese and Taiwanese food. The name is decades older than the tower: in 1986 it belonged to an antiques shop, in 1997 to a restaurant famous for abalone, and only in 2010 did it go up over a hotel entrance. The lineage on the menu is the group's own family tree.

A note for the record on two vanished names. The 2010 opening press release still lists a bar called QUUBE and a chocolate avenue; fifteen years later they survive only in old articles and image libraries. A hotel's dining map metabolizes like this, so when researching, trust the current list on the official site.

Club rooms and Bonvoy Platinum and above get the executive lounge on floor 12, about 30 seats. The space and what it serves are described consistently across sources. The hours are not: three public records give three versions. All three are below, and the hotel's own answer outranks them all.

The indoor heated pool on floor 3 opens at 05:30: three marked lanes, 120 centimeters deep, with a whirlpool at about 40 degrees Celsius beside it. Floor 2 holds the gym, an aerobics room and gender separated saunas, also 05:30 to 23:00, for guests and members only.

Le Meridien Taipei rates: the actual numbers for November 11
The two tables below are for November 11, 2026 in and November 12 out, one night, two adults, in the entry level Deluxe room, everything in US dollars. Rates and exchange rates both move, so read this as a snapshot of the day it was checked.
Two notes on method first. On the day of the check Marriott's USD display was down (the system posted a notice and fell back to the default currency), so the Marriott figures here are conversions, while the dollar figures shown on Google are native quotes. Conversions use 1 USD to 32.25 New Taiwan dollars as of August 13, 2026 (Bank of Taiwan spot 32.175 buy, 32.325 sell; XE mid 32.28).
How pricing works in Taiwan
Taiwanese hotels add 5 percent value added tax and 10 percent service charge to the room rate, 15.5 percent in total. Marriott systems display the nightly figure before tax, while booking sites mostly show the tax inclusive total, so align the two before comparing. You can check the math yourself: the member rate of about US$324.03 times 1.155 is about US$374.25, which reconciles with the tax inclusive figure of about US$374.23, the dime coming from rounding on the local currency side.

The band runs from US$374 to US$430. No platform undercuts the member rate for this night; the widest gap is US$56, about 15 percent. Most platforms track the public rate at US$393 to 394, and four sites bottom out a tier higher. The comparison ends in a dull place: enroll for free, then book on the website or through your advisor.

Why the price sits where it does
November 11 is a Wednesday. Taiwan has no public holiday in November, the Double Tenth and Retrocession Day long weekends land in October, and the New Year season is still ahead, so Xinyi returns to its weekday business pricing. The member rate for this night sits close to the hotel's 2024 full year average of about US$304, the second highest among Taipei's tourist hotels, which marks it as this property's normal range.
Booking channels: the luxury programs skip this one
Checked one by one in August 2026: this property is not on the Virtuoso list, not on Amex Fine Hotels + Resorts, and does not appear on the public participant lists for Marriott STARS or LUMINOUS (the Le Meridien brand belongs to the LUMINOUS tier, but participation is per property). So the advisor perk playbook that works at W Taipei next door does not transfer here.
What the advisor route does here is simpler: booking the same Bonvoy member rate you would get yourself, same room, same rate, with someone watching the details for you. Any extra amenity needs case by case confirmation with the hotel, so do not assume breakfast or an upgrade before it is confirmed. Marriott's own rules already bar combining member rates with STARS or LUMINOUS amenities, and this property is not even on those lists, which removes the gray area entirely.

Taipei 101 in nine minutes, and a skybridge one road crossing away
The daily radius here is short: Shin Kong Mitsukoshi's Xinyi stores and BELLAVITA are across the street, Breeze Xinyi and Breeze Song Gao are within the walk, and Taipei 101 is about 720 meters, nine minutes on foot. The Xinyi elevated skybridge network stitches the department stores together, but it does not plug into the hotel; the last stretch is a street level crossing.

For sixteen years there was exactly one answer to which Meridien in Taipei; now there are two, one in Xinyi and one across the river in Banqiao, New Taipei. 12 · HISTORY AND DETAIL
The antiques dealer's hotel: from a banking scandal to a Meridien
The story of this tower starts in 1985. That year the Tenth Credit Cooperative scandal, Taiwan's largest financial collapse of the decade, brought down the extended Tsai family's holdings, and thirty six year old Tsai Chen-yang went from conglomerate scion to bankrupt overnight. The next year he opened an antiques shop called Han She, My Humble House. Twenty four years later those words went up over a five star hotel in the Xinyi Planning District.
Antiques, bronze heads, and a prince's revenge
The Humble House antiques business pioneered selling classical objects the way a department store sells goods, and made its name across the Taiwan Strait. In 1987 Tsai paid US$165,000 to bring back the monkey head, one of the twelve zodiac bronzes looted from the Old Summer Palace in Beijing in 1860, and in 1989 he added the ox, tiger and horse heads. A man rebuilding from zero in Taipei became a fixed name in the history of repatriated Chinese art.
In 1997 the group crossed into food with a restaurant famous for abalone. In 2002 Tsai took over the Lai Lai Hotel, the grand hotel his elder brother's side of the family had lost in the scandal years, and renamed it the Sheraton Taipei. The local press called that move the prince's revenge. On December 3, 2010, Le Meridien Taipei opened, making My Humble House the only Taiwanese group then running two international flags at once.
Four layers, and none of them owned by the family
Look closely at the rights behind this tower and something interesting appears. The land belongs to the Taipei city government: block A12 of the Xinyi Planning District, on a 50 year surface lease. The tower was built by Shin Kong Life, the insurer that won that lease. The brand is licensed from Starwood, now Marriott. My Humble House signed on in 2007 as tenant operator of the entire hotel, spending about US$37,000,000 on the fit out. Land, building, brand, operation: four layers, four different owners.
That structure explains two things. Why only 21 floors: the massing was fixed the moment the surface lease deal was drawn. And why the hotel bet its identity on art: the land and the building were never its own, so the things that could appreciate, travel and define the place are the 700 works on the walls. An antiques dealer's instinct, applied to a rented tower, adds up.
What came after
Tsai Chen-yang died in January 2016, and the company listed on the stock exchange the same year under Lai Ing-li, the flutist and widow who took the chair. In 2018 the second son Tsai Po-han became chairman; in January 2021 the eldest son Tsai Po-fu died suddenly. The family's third hotel, Humble House Taipei, was renamed in 2023 and joined Hilton's Curio Collection in 2024, which puts the family's three hotels in three separate systems. In 2024 Le Meridien Taipei's average nightly rate was about US$304, the second highest of any tourist hotel in Taipei, ahead of its far larger neighbors.
Then July 2026: Le Meridien Taipei Banqiao opened, the brand's first directly managed property in Taiwan. In one metropolitan area there is now the old Meridien licensed to an antiques dealer, and the new one run by the group itself. How those two divide the territory is one of the better shows to watch in Taipei hotels over the next few years.

How to spend one night, and who this hotel is for
The good parts sit in three places: the food and the art on the ground floor, the water and the weights on floors 2 and 3, the lounge on 12. The building is small enough that one night covers all of it, without hurry and without gaps.
- 15:00Check in. Platinum and above handle it on floor 12 and settle today's happy hour hours in the same breath.
- 15:30In the room, check two things first: the direction out the window, and whether the bathroom has a tub.
- 16:30The floor 2 gym, or straight down to the floor 3 pool for a few laps.
- 17:30Happy hour opens on 12. The first hour has the fullest spread.
- 19:00Dinner at Latest Recipe (reserved ahead) or My Humble House on 2.
- 21:00Close at Latitude 25. The lobby art keeps a different kind of quiet at night.
- Day 2, 05:30The pool opens. Or sleep until breakfast at 06:30.
- 09:00Walk to Taipei 101, returning through Four Four South Village.

- Anyone planning to make the lounge their dinner. The evening spread pairs with a drink and stops
- Anyone who wants new hardware. The building is from 2010, and its age is honestly there
A 160 room hotel standing on Taipei's most expensive blocks, trading scale for art and density. Whether you stay comes down to what this trip wants: a tower that contains everything, or a small house with originals in the corridors, a pool at half past five, and Taipei 101 nine minutes from the door.
